Blinding Light Illuminates BBC Proms in the Park for Second Consecutive Year
Blinding Light, a Berkshire based lighting design and hire company, has provided lighting for the second consecutive year at BBC Proms in the Park and BBC Radio 2 Live in Hyde Park, London.
For the last decade, industry leading and Blinding Lights principal lighting designer Anthony Turbo Hall has been working with production company Mantaplan to design the lighting rig for the last night spectacular. "As always its been a great pleasure to light the set for the last night celebrations at the event in Hyde Park," commented Hall.
This year's final night celebrations, attended by an audience of over 30,000 saw performances from Katherine Jenkins, Russell Watson, Rolf Harris and Westlife. While Sundays Radio 2 Live Festival in a Day featured sets from headline act Gary Barlow, Lenny Kravitz, Will Young, Beverley Knight and Jools Holland.
"It was important to design a lighting rig that would be flexible enough to compliment the wide variety of music genres that would be performed during the course of the weekend," continued Hall.
This was achieved through the use of Arri fresnels for the orchestra coverage and Pars for the downstage areas. In addition, four 3Kw Gladiator followspots completed the inventory for the stage coverage, with the arena being light by a further 60 eight-lite molefay units, all of which were run by Turbo from a Road Hog.
The moving lights came in the form of a mix of Martin MAC 2000 spot & wash lights to provide the stage coverage, with additional effects from Clay Paky 300 & 700 beam lights, MAC 700 profiles, Clay Paky Alpha Spot HPEs and Martin MAC 301 units rigged throughout the stage & set. All the technology was programmed and run from a Grand MA by Martin Seymour.
In addition to designing the rig, Blinding Light supplied a significant number of the fixtures and truss required to fulfil the design concept from its extended inventory. To fulfil the enormous equipment requirements of a show on this scale, Blinding Light worked closely with Elstree Light and Power to source the remaining fixtures, rigging and power.
